Abstract
It has been estimated that 5,5% of the total amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) generated by human activities can be attributed to the logistics and transport sector (World Economic Forum, 2009). The increasing amounts of GHG emissions to the atmosphere create imbalances in the eco-system, known as climate change, and is being considered the root cause of many natural disasters such as flooding and hurricanes, as highlighted by Halldórsson and Kovács (2010).
