Abstract
Spare parts (also known as service parts) are those parts that are used in the course of production of goods or services, such as during maintenance of equipment, but they are not constituents of the intermediate or final product. Service parts can be divided into two categories: Repairables (which in case of failure, are swapped with new parts and sent to a repair centre) and consumables (which are not technically or economically repairable) (Botter and Fortuin, 2000).
