Abstract

Asia faces a huge demand for infrastructure investment driven by rapid economic growth and urbanisation which is expected to continue over the next two decades. According to the World Bank (2014), the annual percentage growth rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of East Asia (which accounts for about two-fifths of global economic growth) was 6.8% in 2014. Asia has witnessed the rise of megacities (urban areas with population exceeding 10 million).
