ADOPTION OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES FOR SUPPLY CHAIN RISK MANAGEMENT IN THAI LOGISTICS FIRMS

Abstract
Purpose: This paper investigates how the adoption of digital technologies enhances supply chain risk management and operational performance among Thai logistics service providers (LSPs). The study responds to the growing need for resilient logistics systems under increasing geopolitical and economic volatility. Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative survey of 285 Thai LSPs was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The study integrates the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Dynamic Capability Theory (DCT) to test whether perceived usefulness (PU) drives digital technology adoption (DTA) and whether operational capabilities (OPS) mediate its impact on organizational performance (PERF). Bootstrapping (5,000 resamples) and complementary machine-learning validation (Random Forest, SVM) were employed to ensure robustness. Findings: Results confirm that DTA has no significant direct effect on performance (β = 0.08, p > 0.05) but an indirect effect through OPS (β = 0.14, p < 0.05), evidencing full mediation. The model explains 74% of performance variance (R² = 0.74). OPS such as warehouse discipline, process visibility and exception- handling routines function as contingent capabilities that transform digital tools into measurable outcomes. Research limitations/implications Findings derive from cross-sectional data of Thai LSPs; thus, causal inference is limited. Future research may apply longitudinal or cross-country designs to validate dynamic capability evolution. Practical implications The study offers guidance for logistics managers to align digital adoption with capability development, emphasizing the importance of embedding technology within everyday operations. Policy relevance aligns with Thailand 4.0 and the BCG Economy frameworks to strengthen SME resilience. Originality/value: This research advances logistics theory by proposing a capability-augmented TAM that bridges technology adoption intentions and performance realization in emerging-market logistics contexts.
